Board Certified Orofacial Pain Specialist
Dr. Azusa Kuwashima is among a small number of dentists in the United States who have achieved board certification in the recognized specialty of Orofacial Pain with over 13 years of experience in dentistry. She specializes exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ disorders, facial pain, headaches, trigeminal nerve disorders, jaw dysfunction, and dental sleep-related conditions.
She earned her DDS from Nihon University School of Dentistry at Matsudo in Japan, followed by a PhD in Prosthodontics. Her research on bruxism has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and she has lectured at Nihon University School of Dentistry at Matsudo. She later completed advanced specialty training in Orofacial Pain and Dental Sleep Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Dr. Kuwashima believes that lasting relief begins with an accurate diagnosis. Rather than simply treating symptoms, she carefully evaluates how the jaw joints, muscles, teeth, nerves, and airway work together to identify the underlying cause of pain. Every treatment plan is personalized to each patient's condition and goals.
Originally from Japan, Dr. Kuwashima now lives in Texas with her husband and daughter.
Outside the office, Dr. Kuwashima enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, playing tennis, reading, and following soccer.
She believes that maintaining a healthy balance between work, family, and personal well-being helps her bring empathy, patience, and focus to every patient she cares for.

Why "Trinity"?
The name Trinity represents the philosophy that guides everything we do.
Three meanings. One mission.
First, Trinity reflects our specialty in the trigeminal nerve, the largest sensory nerve of the face. As an Orofacial Pain practice, we focus on diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the trigeminal nerve, TMJ, jaw muscles, and the complex structures that work together throughout the head and neck.
Second, Trinity represents our treatment philosophy. We believe lasting relief comes from restoring balance among three essential components: the muscles, the nerves, and the bones. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we carefully evaluate how these systems interact to identify the true source of pain and dysfunction.
Finally, the number three holds a deeply personal meaning. Dr. Azusa Kuwashima is a third-generation dentist, following both her father and grandfather into the profession. Growing up in a family dedicated to dentistry instilled in her a deep respect for patient care, lifelong learning, and clinical excellence. The name Trinity serves as a daily reminder of the responsibility and privilege of continuing that legacy while providing compassionate, evidence-based care to every patient.
At Trinity TMJ & Facial Pain Specialists, our mission is to combine scientific excellence with genuine compassion, helping every patient understand the cause of their pain and guiding them toward lasting relief.
