After TMJ Botox Injections
Learn about side effects of the TMJ treatment, Botox injections, and what to expect with results and what is usually seen after.
What to do after Botox Injections:
Follow the specific instructions provided by your doctor.
Avoid repeatedly pressing, rubbing, or massaging the injection area unless specifically instructed.
Avoid hot baths, saunas, strenuous activity or exercise (can take a shower) on the procedure day
Stay adequately hydrated.
What to expect?
Allow about 1-2 weeks until you see the effects of Botox. The effects are temporary, so Botox is typically repeated approximately every 3 months or later if appropriate. The repetition timing will depend on your response, symptoms and any side effects.
Full treatment effect is measured after 2 treatments (24 weeks), but you may feel the results sooner.
Botox is generally used as one part of a comprehensive treatment plan when appropriate, rather than as a stand-alone solution. Your treatment plan will depend on the specific muscles, symptoms, and contributing factors identified during your evaluation.
